why anthem wont pay when i have cobra?

my husband knew his co. was going out of business so he bought me 2 months cobra because i have breast cancer april paid but may didnt they said because the co closed, we have over a thousand dollars to pay but we paid the premium the dr office wants their money but they say im to disabled to go back to work and i have been fighting school disability for 2 years they say i can work and the drs wont release me, hope you can help im at the end of my rope thanks chell

There is no COBRA after the company goes out of business. Once the plan is gone, it's gone. You would immediately qualify for a HIPAA plan though, but not necessarily retroactive and you'd only have 60 days to get on it.

So, for example if in August he paid for COBRA for Sept and October, but the company closed their operations at the end of August you'd have NO coverage for Sept or October. AND, you would have had to sign up for a HIPAA plan in Sept or Oct. as well. At this point, in my example, you'd have to go to another high risk pool if one is available.

So, any medical bills in Sept or Oct would also not be covered because you wouldn't have had coverage during that time.

I know it's not good news, but hopefully it at least answers your question. The key with COBRA is you're continuing the plan from the employer, but if the plan doesn't exist then there's nothing to continue.

Also, the first answer is incorrect for the reasons I stated above...once it's gone...it's gone.
